Phra Samut Chedi Red Cloth Ceremony

Sacred Red Cloth Ceremony

Every year, the sacred red cloth on Phra Samut Chedi is changed. It is first paraded through Samut Prakan and Phra Pradaeng and then in the afternoon it is brought to Phra Samut Chedi by boat. It is then taken around the temple three times before being wrapped around the stupa. This ceremony has been going on for nearly two hundred years. In the past, the temple was on an island in the river, and the provession had to be made by boat. Today, the river has partly silted up and the temple is now on the West bank.
