Testing of Sukhumwit Line from BTS On Nut to BTS Bearing: On the morning of 4th May 2011, MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra, the Governor of Bangkok, invited the media to inspect the readiness of the Sukhumwit line that now extends to the border with Samut Prakan. The extension is due to open to the public on the Queen’s Birthday, 12th August 2011. MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra said that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) would allow the public to ride the sky train for free on the new extension until 1st January 2012.

The new skytrain extension along Sukhumwit Road from BTS On Nut (E9) to BTS Bearing (E14) is 5.3 km long and has five new stations. These are Bang Chak (E10), Punnawithi (E11), Udomsuk (E12), Bang Na (E13) and Bearing (E14). The next extension of the skytrain will go from BTS Bearing (E14) to Samut Prakan [MAP]. This will have nine more stations along the 13 km route. Bidding for the next stage is due to start this year and probably won’t be completed for another five years.
