Plan for Paknam Railway Monument

The Samut Prakan Municipality have a plan to renovate the area opposite to the entrance for Paknam Market and the pier. They plan to build a monument for the Paknam Railway which used to have its terminus station in front of the market. The Paknam Railway was the first railway in Thailand when it opened to the public in 1893. It ran between Paknam and Hua Lamphong Station in Bangkok. The municipality will also build gardens and a waterfall on this spot which will also have light shows at night. There used to be a shop here in the middle of the road but that was pulled down a couple of years ago. In early November 2009, a JCB started clearing the area. The expected finish date is February 2010.
