Boats help “push” flood water out to sea

A small fleet of boats are being used in Samut Prakan to help “push” the floodwater out to sea during the low tide period. At Saphan Pla there are 30 boats and another 20 boats at Paknam Market. The majority of the boats being used are local fishing boats. The idea to make run-off from the North flow faster out to the Gulf of Thailand was suggested more than 10 years ago by H.M. The King. To speed up the river’s flow, the boats’ propellers are helping to “push” the water. A recent experiment in the Noi River in Ayutthaya showed the method helped accelerate the water flow by 20%. This Sunday, an estimated 200 boats will be used to continue this project.
